Amelia by Susanne Colleary

The final hours of the famous aviation pioneer, Amelia Earhart, who disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in July 1937 while attempting to become the first female pilot to circumnavigate the world.

“Suddenly, it became a night of stars, they appeared through holes in the clouds to hang just outside my window, so close, that if I reached out my hand, I could touch one.”

“When we got our hands on maps, we planned our expeditions. Maps of Africa and Arabia were my favourite. The names were so mysterious and tantalisingly far away that they colonised my imagination. I rolled on my tongue such places, Senegal, Khartoum, Bab - Al - Mandagh, Hadramaut.”
