Macbeth

by William Shakespeare

Following the success of previous Shakespeare adaptations, Blue Raincoat adapted Macbeth in 2000 --the company's fourth Shakespeare adaptation to date. The company's writer in residence, Malcolm Hamilton, adapted the play and it was directed by Blue Raincoat's Artistic Director, Niall Henry.

The last of Shakespeare's tragedies, Macbeth is often considered his darkest play. A play steeped in power and ambition, Shakespeare's Scottish tragedy about Macbeth's bloody rise to power and the guilt-ridden pathology of evil deeds generating still more evil deeds. With Macbeth, Blue Raincoat brought their own style to Shakespear's realm of madness, witchcraft and insomnia.
