The Chairs by Eugene Ionesco

In a lighthouse on the edge of civilisation an old man and an old woman await the arrival of the town's leading figures. The Blacksmith, the Colonel, the Mayor and many more are due. Perhaps even the Emperor himself will attend. Because tonight, after a life of underachievement and obscurity the old man has finally decided (with the help of the town orator) to reveal the true meaning and purpose of life.
