Theatre Resource melds Blue Raincoat’s outstanding reputation as onstage innovators with a number of broader theatrical development initiatives. It’s thrust builds upon the company’s many years of experience as theatre producers and as a national arts development organisation. Many of the new initiatives the plan contains have been in pilot stages within the Blue Raincoat through successive 3 year cycles since 1993 and have come to fruition in the new artistic policy as specific timeframe objectives. The additional (new) elements the plan contains are as follows
- Blue Raincoat Theatre Library: Blue Raincoat will establish a public access theatre library at The Factory Performance Space. The library will hold texts and studies on modern European theatre. It will develop and offer an extensive video archive available for in house viewing. Finally it will develop and offer a dedicated theatre based internet portal service.
- Blue Raincoat Mobile Theatre: Blue Raincoat will establish a new touring concern, specifically designed and dedicated to touring productions within Ireland on a continuous year round basis.
- Blue Raincoat Lecture-Workshop Programme: Blue Raincoat will offer an annual Lecture-Workshop programme to Irish based theatre artists. The lecture-workshops will be given by theatre practitioners from around Europe. The programme will be facilitated and developed through the establishment of a partnership network with other theatre concerns.
- Blue Raincoat Press: Blue Raincoat Press will feature new texts / text extracts, along with critiques and pedagogical studies on modern theatre. The publication will be developed alongside our existing links and associations with universities and theatre schools in Ireland the UK and the US.
- Blue Raincoat Professional Theatre School : Blue Raincoat will establish a full time professional theatre school based in Sligo.
These five initiatives coalesce with the company’s existing key objectives since 1993 which are namely to sustain and evolve the key resource of an artistic ensemble, develop and evolve a theatre repertoire, optimise repertoire performance for Irish and international audiences and to develop and provide year round arts participation programmes to a varied regional community client base.
