The Factory Performance Space

Blue Raincoat Theatre Company, 4 months after its first production in 1991 acquired a derelict warehouse in Sligo city with the intent of converting the premises into a theatre. In January 1993 Marcel Marceau cut the opening tape on The Factory Performance Space.


The Irish state's first ever Cabinet Minister for The Arts, Michael D Higgins, was at his side as guest of honour in his first ever official function in the new ministry.

The Factory Performance Space is now a eighty five seat high spec black box performance space, and one of the most intimate and atmospheric venues in the country.

The Factory Performance Space was completely upgraded between 1999 & 2000 on foot of £350,000 in capital grant allocations.

Located in the heart of Sligo The Factory Performance Space is the ideal venue for touring shows, for workshops and music recitals. On foot of its re-opening in Decenber 2000, The Factory Performance Space takes up a new role as a theatrical research and development facility where companies from Ireland and abroad come to workshop and perform
